This role is critical in driving the creation and launch of cutting-edge skincare formulations that meet market demands and align with the brand's commitment to quality and efficacy. The ideal candidate will possess a strong scientific background in cosmetic chemistry or formulation science, coupled with extensive experience in developing skincare products from concept to commercialization. This is an in-office position requiring hands-on laboratory work and collaboration with cross-functional teams. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the formulation and development of new skincare products, including creams, lotions, serums, cleansers, and masks.
• Conduct extensive research on raw materials, active ingredients, and new formulation technologies.
• Optimize existing formulations for improved performance, stability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Design and execute bench-scale formulations, scale-up trials, and pilot batches.
• Conduct stability testing, compatibility studies, and performance evaluations.
• Collaborate closely with R&D, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, and Manufacturing teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Generate innovative product concepts based on market trends, consumer insights, and competitive analysis.
• Prepare detailed technical documentation, including formulation reports, specifications, and manufacturing instructions.
• Troubleshoot formulation and manufacturing issues.
• Ensure all product development activities comply with industry regulations (e.g., SAHPRA, CTFA) and company quality standards.
• Stay abreast of global cosmetic trends, scientific advancements, and intellectual property landscapes.
• Present technical findings and product development updates to senior management and cross-functional teams.
• Manage external contract research organizations (CROs) and suppliers as needed.
• Contribute to the intellectual property strategy through patentable innovations.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Cosmetic Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in skincare formulation development within the cosmetic industry.
• Proven track record of successfully launching innovative skincare products.
• In-depth knowledge of cosmetic ingredients, formulation science, and manufacturing processes.
• Expertise in analytical techniques and instrumentation for raw material and finished product testing.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements for cosmetic products in South Africa and key international markets.
• Excellent project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific concepts.
• Ability to work independently and lead projects in a collaborative team environment.
• Proficiency in laboratory techniques and equipment relevant to cosmetic formulation.
• Experience with product claims substantiation and performance testing protocols.
• Familiarity with the South African beauty market and consumer preferences in Gauteng .
• Experience in developing natural or organic skincare formulations is a plus.
