Placements24 is assisting a major maritime and infrastructure firm in Durban to appoint a Senior Construction Project Manager. You will oversee end-to-end delivery of large-scale civil and port infrastructure projects, ensuring safety, quality, and timely execution.

The role requires deep project leadership, knowledge of port environments, and proven experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams and complex contracts to drive successful outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Master's degree or PMP/SACPCMP qualification is advantageous.
• 12+ years in construction project management, with 5+ years in senior roles managing large civil/port projects.
• Experience managing projects with budgets > R100 million.
• Strong knowledge of port/marine construction methods, materials, and equipment.
• Contract management experience (FIDIC or similar) and claims negotiation.

Responsibilities

• Lead full project lifecycle from initiation to closure.
• Develop and manage detailed project plans (scope, budget, schedule, resources).
• Oversee construction activities ensuring design/spec compliance, quality, and safety.

About the Role Our client, a major player in the maritime and infrastructure development sector, is actively seeking a highly experienced Senior Construction Project Manager to oversee significant projects in Durban . This demanding role requires a strategic leader adept at managing complex, large-scale construction endeavors, with a particular emphasis on port and marine infrastructure. You will be responsible for the end-to-end management of projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The successful candidate will possess exceptional leadership capabilities, a deep understanding of construction methodologies, and a proven ability to navigate the intricacies of large-scale civil engineering projects. Key Responsibilities

Full project lifecycle management, from initiation and planning through execution, monitoring, and closure. Develop and manage detailed project plans, including scope, budget, schedule, and resource allocation. Oversee construction activities, ensuring adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations. Manage and motivate multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, site supervisors, and subcontractors. Proactively identify and mitigate project risks and issues, developing contingency plans as needed. Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and contractors. Conduct regular site inspections and progress meetings to ensure project milestones are met. Manage procurement processes, contract administration, and change order management. Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety (EHS) legislation.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant professional qualification (e.g., PMP, SACPCMP) is highly advantageous. A minimum of 12 years of experience in construction project management, with at least 5 years in a senior role managing large-scale civil or port infrastructure projects. Demonstrated experience in managing projects with budgets exceeding R100 million. In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment specific to port and marine environments. Proven experience with contract management (FIDIC or similar) and claims negotiation. Strong leadership, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6). Excellent understanding of South African construction regulations and best practices. Ability to work effectively under pressure in a demanding environment.
