Job summary

e-Merge IT Recruitment is seeking a senior COBOL Developer to join our team in a hybrid arrangement based in Sunninghill. You will develop, maintain and support critical business applications, applying strong CO BOL expertise and SDLC practices.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years of commercial development experience, Cobol strengths (5 years), and proficiency in AcuCOBOL or Micro Focus COBOL. FlexGen RADE knowledge is a plus, with Windows Office fluency for daily activities.

Qualifications

• Appropriate tertiary qualification or IT qualification
• 8+ years of commercial development experience
• Strengths to lie in Cobol (5 years experience)
• Proficiency in AcuCOBOL or Micro Focus COBOL
• Knowledge of FlexGen RADE will be advantageous
• Detailed understanding of Application Maintenance Procedures and the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
• Basic proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

• Code, debug and unit-test programs, including new applications and modifications to existing programs
• Design and develop simple to moderately complex programs in line with defined technical specifications and standards
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive system documentation throughout the SDLC, including design, programming, testing and release phases
• Provide technical documentation support to project teams, including user manuals and training materials
• Investigate user requests and incidents, identify root causes and implement appropriate solutions
• Perform application maintenance activities in accordance with established procedures
• Develop, debug and unit-test enhancements and modifications to existing systems
• Execute assigned duties in accordance with IT and Operations standards
• Maintain a strong understanding of application maintenance processes, development methodologies and technical standards
• Ensure compliance with all relevant organisational policies, procedures, standards and controls
