Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Cloud Solutions Architect for a remote-first role in South Africa. You will design, build, and deploy scalable cloud solutions across AWS, Azure, and GCP, leading automation and IaC efforts with Terraform/CloudFormation/ARM templates.

You will mentor engineers, drive secure, cost-efficient architectures, and partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into robust cloud designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years IT infrastructure experience with at least 5 years in cloud architecture.
• Experience designing and deploying on at least two major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Proven experience with Docker and Kubernetes and microservices architecture.
• Strong scripting (Python, Bash) and IaC (Terraform, Ansible).
• Extensive knowledge of networking, security, and data storage in cloud environments.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a remote-first, collaborative environment.
• Cloud certifications (AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert) are desirable.
• Experience leading technical projects and mentoring teams is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect comprehensive cloud solutions based on client requirements, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Lead the implementation and migration of applications and infrastructure to cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates.
• Implement robust CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and management of cloud resources.
• Provide expert guidance on cloud best practices, including security, cost optimization, and performance tuning.
• Collaborate with development teams, project managers, and business stakeholders to translate needs into technical solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure and application issues in cloud environments.
• Mentor junior engineers and architects, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
• Stay current with emerging cloud technologies and industry trends, recommending innovative solutions.
• Develop comprehensive documentation for cloud architectures, deployment processes, and operational procedures.
