Job summary

Jobgether is partnering with a South Africa-based opportunity for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer. You will design, build, and evolve infrastructure for large-scale, customer-facing products with end-to-end ownership from architecture to operations.

You will lead critical infrastructure, drive reliability, security, and performance, and mentor engineers while collaborating with DevOps and product teams to enable scalable services.

Qualifications

• 6–10 years in infrastructure or backend engineering with cloud focus
• Experience owning a significant product or subsystem end-to-end
• Strong English communication both written and spoken

Responsibilities

• Own a core infrastructure product end-to-end, including design, implementation, deployment, operation, and ongoing improvement.
• Define project objectives and success criteria, align technical initiatives with business goals, identify risks.
• Translate requirements into pragmatic designs addressing edge cases with clarity and minimal complexity.
• Build secure, resilient, high-performing, cost-efficient infrastructure for diverse workloads.
• Develop and ship developer-facing tooling to boost engineering productivity and reduce toil.
• Manage infrastructure through code using Terraform and maintain architectural consistency.
• Collaborate with product engineering to design scalable services and align with stakeholders.
• Participate in incident response and apply debugging techniques across services.
• Improve monitoring and observability utilizing operational data for stability and performance.
• Apply a security-first mindset in development and reviews.
• Mentor engineers and drive cross-team architecture discussions.
• Facilitate collaboration across teams on infrastructure priorities and processes
