Qualifications

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Engineer to lead critical infrastructure development projects in the Upington region. This role involves the planning, design, and implementation of major civil engineering works, including transportation networks, water supply, and sanitation systems. You will provide technical leadership, manage project teams, and ensure that all projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and in compliance with stringent quality and environmental standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record in delivering complex infrastructure projects, excellent stakeholder management skills, and a deep understanding of civil engineering principles. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptualization, design, and execution of major civil infrastructure projects.
• Manage project teams, including engineers, technicians, and support staff, ensuring effective collaboration and performance.
• Develop project scope, budgets, schedules, and resource plans, and oversee their implementation.
• Conduct feasibility studies, site investigations, and risk assessments for proposed developments.
• Ensure all designs and construction activities comply with relevant SANS codes, municipal regulations, and environmental standards.
• Oversee the procurement process, including tender preparation and evaluation, and contract administration.
• Monitor construction progress, quality, and safety, providing technical guidance and resolving issues as they arise.
• Liaise effectively with clients, government authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met and stakeholder satisfaction is maintained.
• Champion innovation and best practices in civil engineering design and project delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical development of the team.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Pr. Eng registration is mandatory.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, with a significant focus on infrastructure development projects.
• Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering large-scale civil infrastructure projects.
• Expertise in areas such as transportation engineering, water and wastewater engineering, or structural engineering as applied to infrastructure.
• Proficiency in relevant design software (e.g., Civil 3D, PDS) and project management tools.
• Strong understanding of contract law, FIDIC, or NEC forms of contract.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage complex projects, resolve conflicts, and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Willingness to travel to project sites within the Upington region and occasionally beyond as needed.
