Job summary

Assegai Recruitment seeks a Senior Civil Engineer to lead civil infrastructure and site development design across multiple projects. You will provide technical leadership, coordinate multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers in a BIM-enabled delivery environment.

Based in Johannesburg, Durban or Cape Town, you will contribute to proposals and tenders while ensuring quality design, compliance with codes and efficient project delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
• Pr Eng registration with ECSA.
• Approximately eight years or more of relevant consulting design experience.
• Experience in civil infrastructure and site development design.
• Experience with BIM-enabled design environments and Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil engineering design packages from concept through detailed design and delivery.
• Design and coordinate infrastructure including bulk earthworks, water, wastewater, sewer, stormwater and drainage systems.
• Provide technical leadership and resolve complex engineering design challenges.

Job description

A well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join its infrastructure team. Can be based in Johannesburg, Durban or Cape Town office.

This position is suited to a professionally registered engineer who has developed strong civil infrastructure design capability within a consulting environment and is ready to take greater responsibility for technical delivery, project packages and team leadership.

You will work across multidisciplinary projects involving site development and civil infrastructure, collaborate with engineering teams across different regions, mentor developing engineers and contribute to digital and BIM-enabled project delivery.

Role Overview

As Senior Civil Engineer, you will lead and coordinate civil engineering design activities across infrastructure and site development projects. The role combines hands‑on technical engineering with design leadership, multidisciplinary coordination, mentoring and involvement in project and commercial delivery.

You will also have opportunities to contribute to proposals and business development initiatives while developing towards broader technical and project leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead civil engineering design packages from concept through detailed design and delivery.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
• Approximately eight years or more of relevant consulting engineering design experience, or an equivalent combination of qualifications, training and demonstrated technical competence.
• Demonstrated civil infrastructure and site development design experience.
• Experience with bulk earthworks and civil services infrastructure.
• Experience in water, wastewater, sewer, stormwater and drainage systems.
• Strong technical judgement and the ability to resolve complex engineering problems.
• Good understanding of relevant civil engineering design codes and standards.
• Experience working within BIM‑enabled design environments.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D.
• Commercial awareness and an understanding of engineering project delivery requirements.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and geographically distributed project teams.

Preferred / Advantageous Experience
