Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Chemical Engineer with a strong focus on process design and optimization in Sandton, Gauteng. You will lead conceptual design through detailed engineering and troubleshoot chemical processes while collaborating with R&D, operations and maintenance teams.

The ideal candidate brings 6+ years of experience, proficiency in Aspen Plus/HYSYS/ChemCAD, and solid knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and reaction engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in chemical process design and optimization.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, ChemCAD).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and reaction engineering.
• Experience in PFD and P&ID development.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for teamwork.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
• Familiarity with process safety management (PSM) principles is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop new chemical processes, from conceptualization to detailed engineering.
• Optimize existing manufacturing processes to improve yield, reduce costs, and enhance safety and environmental performance.
• Conduct process simulations using software like Aspen Plus or HYSYS.
• Prepare Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Perform mass and energy balance calculations for various unit operations.
• Troubleshoot process issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
• Collaborate with R&D, operations, and maintenance teams on process improvement initiatives.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications, and project documentation.
