Job summary

Placements24 in Kimberley, Northern Cape, is seeking a Senior Chemical Process Design Engineer to lead the conceptual and detailed design of chemical processes from pilot to full commercialization.

You will run process simulations (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, UniSim), perform HAZOPs, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with R&D, project managers, and operations to deliver safe, efficient projects on-site in Kimberley.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of hands‑on experience in chemical process design and engineering.
• Proven track record in designing and scaling up chemical processes.
• Expertise in process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, UniSim).
• Experience with PSM and HAZOP analyses essential.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
• On‑site Kimberley, South Africa, readiness to work locally.

Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptual and detailed design of chemical processes, including equipment specification and P&ID development.
• Perform rigorous process simulations and modeling to optimize performance and feasibility.
• Conduct HAZOP studies and risk assessments to ensure process safety.
• Develop pilot plant test plans and analyze results for full-scale design.
• Collaborate with equipment vendors to meet process requirements.
• Provide technical support during construction, commissioning and start-up.
• Mentor junior engineers and ensure compliance with codes and standards.
