Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Chemical Engineer for a remote role with occasional site visits to Pretoria, Gauteng. You will develop, scale-up and optimize processes for high-value specialty chemicals, ensuring safety and quality standards are met in a challenging remote setting.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in chemical kinetics, reaction engineering, and separation technologies, with experience in process simulation and lab-to-pilot scale-up.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years of chemical process development experience.
• Strong background in reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and mass transfer.
• Experience with scale-up from lab to pilot and commercial scale.
• Proficiency with process simulation software (ChemCad, Aspen Plus).
• Ability to travel occasionally to Pretoria for site visits.
• Excellent problem-solving and data analysis skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop chemical processes for synthesis and purification of specialty chemicals.
• Perform process modeling and simulation to optimize reaction conditions and unit operations.
• Plan and execute laboratory and pilot-scale experiments to validate designs.
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement process improvements to enhance yield and quality.
• Develop PFDs and P&IDs for new and modified processes.
• Ensure all activities comply with SHE regulations.
• Collaborate with R&D chemists, production teams, and quality control personnel.
• Prepare technical reports and documentation for process development and tech transfer.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely completion.
