Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist in Johannesburg to drive genomics and molecular biology analyses. You will design complex pipelines, perform advanced statistics, and collaborate with clinicians to interpret results. The role requires a PhD and at least 5 years of post-doctoral experience in bioinformatics.

You will mentor staff, contribute to research grants, and stay current with cloud computing and cutting-edge tools. This is an on-site position in Gauteng.

Qualifications

• PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 5 years of post- doctoral research experience in bioinformatics or a closely related field.
• Proven programming experience in Python, R and Perl with bioinformatics tools and databases.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement advanced bioinformatics pipelines for large-scale datasets.
• Design and conduct statistical analyses to identify patterns and significant findings.
• Collaborate with scientists to define questions and interpret results.
• Build and maintain biological databases ensuring data integrity.
• Contribute to grants, publications, and presentations.
