Placements24 is seeking a Senior Bioinformatician in Johannesburg to lead bioinformatics initiatives within a cutting-edge R&D team. The role focuses on developing and applying advanced pipelines for genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics data, driving discovery in drug target research.

You will collaborate with experimental scientists, maintain databases, and present results to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s in a relevant field is required.
• Proven experience with high-throughput sequencing data analysis.
• Strong programming skills in Python/R/SQL.
• Experience with bioinformatics tools and databases.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement robust bioinformatics pipelines for multi-omics data.
• Perform statistical analysis to identify drug targets and biomarkers.
• Collaborate with biologists, chemists, and clinicians on research questions.
• Develop and maintain biological data databases.
• Stay up-to-date with bioinformatics tools and methods.
• Generate reports, presentations, and publications.
• Contribute to R&D strategy and direction.
• Mentor junior bioinformaticians.
