Placements24 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, seeks a Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems powering cloud services. You will architect microservices, optimize databases, and ensure reliability across cloud stacks.

The role requires Python/Java/Go or Node.js, Docker/Kubernetes, SQL and NoSQL, and CI/CD with IaC. A CS or engineering degree plus at least six years in backend development and distributed systems is expected.

Qualifications

• Master's or Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 6 years of backend development experience.
• Proficient in Python, Java, Go, or Node.js.
• Extensive experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy scalable backend services and APIs.
• Architect and implement robust database solutions (SQL & NoSQL).
• Manage and optimize cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Develop and maintain microservices architecture across applications.
• Write clean, efficient, well-documented code (Python/Java/Go).
• Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and PMs to deliver integrated solutions.
• Implement security best practices across the development lifecycle.
• Conduct code reviews and performance tuning of backend systems.
• Stay current with emerging backend technologies and trends.
• Contribute to process and tooling improvements.
