Placements24 in Pietermaritzburg is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to design, develop, and deploy scalable backend services powering our client's flagship products. The role blends on-site collaboration with remote flexibility in a hybrid setup.

You will work with modern languages (Python/Java/Go/Node.js), manage relational and NoSQL databases, design RESTful APIs, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines while mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of professional backend experience.
• Proficiency in at least one modern backend language (Python, Java, Go, Node.js).
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
• RESTful API design and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Responsabilités

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable backend services and APIs.
• Collaborate with frontend, product, and QA teams to implement features.
• Write clean, well-documented code following best practices.
• Optimize performance, identify bottlenecks, implement caching.
• Manage database schemas and queries, ensure data integrity.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
• Participate in code reviews and provide feedback.
• Troubleshoot production issues and mentor juniors.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and tech evaluations.
