Placements24 is seeking a Senior Air Traffic Control Systems Engineer in Randburg, Gauteng, ZA to design, develop, implement, and maintain advanced ATC systems ensuring safe and efficient air traffic flow management.

The role requires 9+ years in ATC or similar safety-critical systems, with strong radar, data link, and software lifecycle expertise. You will lead integration, testing, and technical mentoring in a high-pressure environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 9+ years experience in ATC systems or similar safety-critical systems.
• Experience with radar and communication systems (VHF/HF, data links).
• Understanding of safety-critical software development lifecycles (DO-178C).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect complex ATC systems including radar, surveillance, comms, and navigation subsystems.
• Develop and implement system requirements aligned with international aviation standards (ICAO, FAA, EASA).
• Lead integration and testing of ATC system components and software modules.
• Perform system performance analysis, reliability studies, and safety assessments for critical ATC apps.
• Manage system upgrades and minimize disruption to operations.
• Collaborate with authorities, airlines, and operations personnel to define system needs.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in real-time environments.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Stay current with ADS-B, SWIM, and AI-driven ATC technology advancements.
• Contribute to proposals and technical documentation for new projects.
