Job summary

Capitec Bank Ltd. in Stellenbosch seeks a Software Engineer: Back-End II (Android / Payments) to join the Payments Technology team.

You will design, develop, test, deploy and maintain native Android applications on POS devices and the server-side services that power them. You will work across the full payments stack, integrating with terminal hardware, handling EMV and ISO 8583 messaging, and delivering reliable, real-time transaction processing at scale.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' proven experience in software development, including native Android and back-end development.
• Hands-on commercial experience building native Android applications in Java and/or Kotlin.
• Practical experience with EMV protocol and ISO 8583 messaging.
• Experience integrating hardware peripherals on Android — card readers, NFC, PIN pads — via AIDL / IPC.
• Experience building and maintaining server-side components, APIs and services for transactional workloads.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain native Android apps for POS devices and backend services.
• Integrate with terminal hardware and payment peripherals (card readers, NFC, PIN pads).
• Ensure reliability, performance and transaction integrity in real-time payments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on design and problem solving.
• Deploy and manage server-side components that support transactional workloads.
