Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical authority for the Android payment-device stack.
• Develop and maintain production Android applications using Kotlin and Java.
• Lead SoftPOS development and related technical implementation.
• Integrate payment hardware via manufacturer SDKs and troubleshoot.
• Work with multiple payment devices (Urovo, PAX, Ingenico, Sunmi).
• Implement EMV Level 2 payment flows (contact and contactless).
• Own device certification activities and remediation processes.
• Produce architecture documentation and runbooks.
• Mentor the Mid-level Android Developer and aid succession planning.

Our client is looking for a Senior Android Developer with specialist payment-device experience to take ownership of the technical delivery and security of Android-based payment solutions. The successful candidate will bring strong Kotlin and Java expertise together with hands-on experience across payment hardware, EMV, PCI requirements and device certification.

The successful candidate will:

• Serve as the technical authority for the Android payment-device stack.
• Develop and maintain high-quality production applications using Kotlin and Java.
• Lead SoftPOS development and related technical implementation.
• Integrate and troubleshoot payment hardware through manufacturer SDKs.
• Work with Urovo, PAX, Ingenico, Sunmi or equivalent payment devices.
• Implement and support EMV Level 2 contact and contactless payment flows.
• Manage interactions between payment applications, kernels and device hardware.
• Integrate USB/serial, NFC, barcode, printer, scanner and card-reader components.
• Implement security-critical functionality using secure elements, Android Keystore and TrustZone.
• Apply PCI PTS and PCI-SSF principles throughout development and code review.
• Own device certification activities, including Visa CPA and Mastercard TQM processes.
• Investigate certification failures and manage remediation and resubmission.
• Produce actionable architecture documentation, module registers and runbooks.
• Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to the Mid-level Android Developer.
• Support succession planning by ensuring critical technical knowledge is documented and transferred.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

• 6+ years of professional Android development using Kotlin and Java.
• 6+ years of verifiable payment-device experience.
• 3+ years of payment hardware SDK integration.
• 2+ years' EMV Level 2 contact/contactless experience.
• At least one completed Visa CPA or Mastercard TQM certification cycle.
• Practical PCI PTS and PCI-SSF experience in production device software.
• Production experience with secure element, Keystore or TrustZone-based security.
• NQF 6 Diploma or NQF 7 Degree in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.

Core Technical Knowledge:

• Android lifecycle, services, permissions and payment-interruption scenarios.
• Payment-device SDKs and end-to-end transaction flows.
• EMV Level 2 kernels and application-layer responsibilities.
• Hardware and peripheral integration.
• Secure key and session management.
• Payment-device certification tooling and processes.
• Secure coding, logging and code-review constraints.
• Technical documentation and operational runbooks.

Qualification Flexibility:

A formal qualification may be considered advantageous rather than mandatory for candidates who can demonstrate substantial payment-device experience and exceptional technical depth.
