Capitec Bank Ltd. is seeking a back-end engineer to help rebuild a critical payments infrastructure in Sandton, South Africa.

The role involves building and optimizing components that power payments and collections, writing clean code, APIs, and robust database queries, with a focus on security and performance. You will work in a team transitioning to a newer architecture, collaborate with engineers, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and capacity planning.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of back-end development experience.
• Proficiency in Java and backend systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated tests.

Responsibilities

• Build and optimise back-end components powering payments and collections.
• Write clean, reusable code, APIs and libraries.
• Implement and optimise database models and queries.
• Write automated tests and contribute to CI/CD pipelines.
• Practice secure coding as part of development.
• Troubleshoot and debug across payment environments.
• React to monitoring and alerting events; support standby rotations.
• Assist with capacity planning and load testing.
• Maintain and improve existing solutions during architecture migration.
