Job summary

Kamo Placements CC in Durban North is seeking an experienced Accountant / Senior Bookkeeper with at least 5 years of end-to-end accounting experience. The role requires strong knowledge of Sage One and Sage Payroll, plus the ability to manage financial operations, reporting and compliance under tight deadlines.

You will lead and mentor a small team, handle payroll integrations and ensure accurate VAT, PAYE and tax submissions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ end-to-end accounting experience, including within a retail environment.
• Diploma or degree in Accounting or Finance, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookups.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations and tax compliance.
• Experience leading a small team and managing deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accounting records through to trial balance, including journals, accruals, fixed assets and monthly reconciliations.
• Manage Sage One integrations with the online store and other systems, including testing and staff training.
• Process payroll and coordinate time-and-attendance systems, ensuring accurate hours, overtime and leave records.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, annual financial statements, audit schedules, budgets and cash-flow forecasts.
• Oversee debtors, collections, creditors and payment processing in line with approvals.
• Reconcile bank accounts, card transactions, till receipts and online sales, investigate discrepancies.
• Manage stock accounting, stock takes, transfers, costing and margin reporting.
• Ensure timely VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL and income tax submissions and reconciliations.
• Maintain financial controls, audit-ready documentation, compliance and insurance records.
• Lead and support a team member, monitor performance and identify process improvements.
