Job summary

The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay, part of Village n Life, is seeking a Sculler to maintain a clean, hygienic kitchen and support chefs in meeting Village n Life standards.

The role focuses on cleaning appliances, utensils, and workspaces, and adhering to HACCP guidelines while supporting daily operations in the back of house.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• At least 6 months’ kitchen experience.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Understanding of kitchen vocabulary.
• Reliable, adaptable with strong attention to detail.
• Team player who handles pressure.

Responsibilities

• Clean cooking appliances, utensils, cutlery, crockery, pots and pans.
• Clean the dishwasher according to protocol.
• Wash walls and tiles daily from eye level down and weekly from eye level up.
• Perform daily cleaning of grease traps and weekly cleaning of canopy filters.
• Keep storerooms, fridges and freezers tidy and sanitary.
• Ensure cooking equipment is clean and in good working order, reporting defects to senior staff.
• Follow HACCP hygiene standards and cleaning schedules.
• Assist with receipt of deliveries and stocktaking.
• Complete pest control logs and manage daily chemical allocation.

Job description

This role forms part of the back of house food and beverage team at The Bay Hotel, within the Village n Life hospitality group.

The Role

As a Sculler you’ll ensure the kitchen is clean, hygienic and well maintained. You’ll support the kitchen team by keeping equipment, utensils and workspaces in order so chefs can focus on preparing meals to Village n Life standards.

Key Responsibilities
