Job summary

Together Staffing group is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to develop and implement a strategic safety framework for a major mining operation in Rustenburg. The role requires a Mine Manager Certificate (MMC) or GCC and a degree in Health and Safety or Mining, with at least 5 years in senior mining leadership.

Underground hard rock mining and processing experience, MHSA/COIDA knowledge, and a commitment to Fatal Risk Control Protocols are essential.

Qualifications

• Mine Manager Certificate (MMC) or Engineering Government Certificate of Competence (GCC) is essential.
• Degree in Health and Safety or Mining is essential.
• Minimum 5 years' senior management experience in Mining, Engineering or Processing.
• Experience in underground mining safety management is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of MHSA and COIDA.
• Underground hard rock mining and processing experience.
• Understanding of Fatal Risk Control Protocols and Critical Control Management.

Responsibilities

• Develop an annual safety business plan aligned with organisational objectives.
• Establish leading and lagging safety indicators and provide monthly and quarterly performance reports.
• Develop and maintain mandatory Codes of Practice applicable to safety.
• Establish and maintain the required legal safety structures for the operation.
• Develop electronic systems for managing risk, safety statistics, Rand Mutual claims, audits and inspections.
• Monitor and communicate national safety developments and industry requirements.
• Establish formal consultation processes with Health and Safety Representatives and relevant office bearers.
• Drive initiatives aimed at continuously improving the safety culture.
• Analyse leading and lagging indicators to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
• Establish and manage an Organisational Risk Assessment (ORA) for safety.
• Conduct and oversee safety audits and inspections to assess compliance against strategic requirements.
