Job summary

Placements24 seeks a dedicated Mine Safety Manager to lead safety initiatives for operations in Soweto. You will ensure a safe working environment, develop robust safety systems and foster a strong safety culture across the organization.

You will manage compliance with SA legislation, drive continuous safety improvement and deliver targeted training to all levels of personnel, on-site in Soweto.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
• Registered as a Safety Professional with SACPCMP or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 years in a safety management role, preferably in mining.
• In-depth knowledge of SA mining safety legislation (e.g., MHSA).
• Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain safety management systems and procedures.
• Conduct safety inspections, risk assessments and incident investigations.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Deliver safety training programs to all personnel levels.
• Promote a positive safety culture through engagement and leadership.
• Advise management on safety matters and recommend corrective actions.
• Oversee emergency preparedness and response plans for the mine site.

Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of South African mining safety legislation (e.g., MHSA).
