Job summary

Placements24 is partnering with a forward-thinking civil engineering firm seeking a Road Design Engineer to join a fully remote team. You will lead highway and road design across the Paarl, Western Cape region, ensuring compliance with SA standards while optimizing safety and sustainability.

You will use AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bentley InRoads/OpenRoads, collaborate with geotechnical, structural, and environmental specialists, and contribute to proposals and tenders in a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Minimum of 6 years of road/highway design experience.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley InRoads/OpenRoads or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of geometric design, traffic engineering, and drainage.
• Familiarity with South African road design standards.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for remote collaboration.
• PE registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
• Traffic modeling software experience is an advantage.
• Commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable transportation solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the geometric design of highways, rural roads, and urban streets, ensuring compliance with design standards.
• Develop detailed design plans, including horizontal and vertical alignment, cross-sections, and intersection design.
• Prepare BoQ and contract documents for road construction projects.
• Conduct traffic analysis, capacity studies, and safety assessments to inform design decisions.
• Design road drainage systems, including culverts, storm drains, and channels.
• Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley InRoads/OpenRoads for design and modeling.
• Coordinate with geotechnical, structural, and environmental specialists in a virtual environment.
• Review designs and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Assist in preparing proposals and tenders for new road projects.
• Ensure designs meet South African road design standards and regulations.
