About the Role

Our client, a leading transportation engineering firm, is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer with expertise in transportation and road network design. This position is fully remote, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa. You will be responsible for the planning, design, and analysis of road infrastructure projects, including highways, urban streets, and intersections. We are looking for a candidate with a strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, geometric design, and pavement analysis. This role presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical infrastructure development in a dynamic, remote-first work environment, collaborating with a national team.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed designs for road networks, including geometric alignment, intersection design, and interchange layouts.
• Conduct traffic studies, capacity analysis, and prepare traffic management plans.
• Design pavement structures based on traffic loading and material properties.
• Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documentation using CAD and design software.
• Liaise with clients, government agencies, and stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met.
• Perform site visits for data collection, design verification, and to support construction activities remotely.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental specialists, structural engineers, and urban planners.
• Ensure designs comply with national road design standards (e.g., COTO guidelines) and relevant legislation.
• Assist in project management tasks, including cost estimation and scheduling.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.

Requirements

• A Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) or BSc degree in Civil Engineering.
• A minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in transportation and road network design.
• Proficiency in transportation design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MXRoads, or similar.
• Strong knowledge of traffic engineering principles, traffic modeling software (e.g., VISSIM, SIDRA), and pavement design methodologies.
• Experience with geometric design standards and South African road construction practices.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, essential for effective remote collaboration.
• Proven ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and work autonomously in a remote setting.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr. Eng. or Techni Eng.) is highly desirable.
