Job summary

Valterra Platinum is seeking a maintenance technician with rigging expertise to maintain, install and commission crane and lifting equipment across our facilities in South Africa. The role requires hands-on experience with cranes, risk assessments, and safety leadership.

You will conduct safety meetings, support apprentices, and ensure compliance with environmental and quality standards while performing inspections on chairlifts and lifting gear.

Qualifications

• Matric/Grade 12 as a minimum educational requirement.
• Technical N2 trade qualification is required.
• Rigger certification and crane-related qualifications are essential.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, install and commission machinery and equipment to standard.
• Attend and conduct Safety meetings and participate in risk assessments.
• Ensure compliance with environmental requirements and quality standards.
• Evaluate component replacements with sound judgment.
• Complete job cards and document spares used (PMs).
• Support and train subordinates and apprentices.
• Inspect and maintain chairlifts and lifting equipment.
• Perform tasks using appropriate tools and methods.

Job Description

• Maintain, install and commission the of the machinery and equipment to an agreed standard in the area of responsibility.
• Attend and conduct Safety meeting
• Conducts and participate in Risk assessments
• Comply to environmental requirements
• Exercise judgment with regards to replacement of components
• Maintains a high quality of work
• Completing job cards and description of work and spares used (PM’s)
• Support, coach and participate in the training and development of subordinates and apprentices
• Responsible for maintenance and inspections on chairlifts
• Responsible for maintenance and inspection of lifting equipment on the stores
• Performing work to the required standards and specifications
• Applying appropriate tools to complete tasks

Qualifications

• Grade 12/ Matric
• Technical Trade Specific N2
• Certified Competent as Rigger (Rigging Trade certificate)

Experience

• 3 years experiance
• Fixed cranes, Mobile cranes and Rope splicing

Knowledge and skills

• Must be able to do standby and overtime
• Must be familiar with risk assessments procedures
• Valid driving license code 08
• Basic Computer Skills
