Job summary

Valterra Platinum Limited, based in Mokopane, Limpopo, seeks a competent Mine Supervisor (C5) to oversee maintenance, safety, and operational activities across the mining cycle. The role reports to the Senior Shift Supervisor and requires strong coordination with maintenance and operations teams.

Qualified candidates will have a Grade 12 with Maths & Science, a Competent A Certificate, a valid Blasting Certificate and a Shift Supervisor Certificate (advantageous).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain quality working methods and sequences to support the mining cycle.
  • Inspect high wall, forest areas; act on noncompliance to legal/management specifics.
  • Inspect demarcation, barricading back areas, hazardous areas; act on noncompliance.
  • Assist during breakdowns or emergencies; coordinate support from other disciplines.
  • Encourage cooperation between maintenance and operations teams.
  • Monitor material usage; optimise reclaimed material use.
  • Coordinate haulage services and subcontractor activities.
  • Interpret production objectives; verify stock levels; procure materials/equipment.
  • Record inspections per Minerals Act; submit checklists for hazardous machinery.
  • Monitor attendance registers; advise on explosives procurement.
  • Record daily/weekly production statistics; contribute to sustainability plans.
  • Liaise with Operations Manager on mining activities; ensure team alignment.

This role is based in Mokopane, Limpopo.

Job Description

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Maintain quality working methods and sequences and work performances to support the continuance of the mining cycle.
  • Inspection of high wall and forest areas and taking appropriate action in the event of noncompliance to legal and management specifics.
  • Inspection of demarcation, barricading off back areas, hazardous areas and abandoned workings and taking appropriate action in the event of non-compliance to legal and management specifics.
  • Assisting during breakdowns or emergencies and co-coordinating support from other disciplines.
  • Encouraging co-operation and teamwork between maintenance and operational personnel.
  • Monitoring material usage and ensuring that the use of reclaimed material is optimised.
  • Arranging expertise for problems beyond the scope of existing resources. Co-coordinating the activities of the haulage servicemen allocated to the area.
  • Monitoring contract work in area of responsibility Interpretation and communication of production objectives.
  • Verifying stock levels and delivering of materials and equipment Utilising applicable system for the ordering of materials and equipment.
  • Recording all specified inspections required by the Minerals Act.
  • Submitting all checklists or formal controls required for the operation of hazardous machinery and equipment.
  • Checking attendance registers and maintaining records for time worked Monitoring and advising on the ordering and procurement of explosives.
  • Obtaining and recording daily/weekly production statistics.
  • Execute delivery the sustainability activities as relevant to discipline and set out in the Life of Asset Plan to improve sustainability performance over time.
  • Deliver Sustainable Mining Plan commitments relevant to discipline.
  • Comply with environmental and social requirements as relevant to discipline.
  • Implement environmental and social risk mitigation techniques as specified in the asset risk management approach as relevant to discipline.
  • Effective two-way open communication with other team members.
  • Encourage co-operation and teamwork Supervise and motivate team Maintain awareness of needs of area teams.
  • Conduct meetings as required to maintain effective communication.
  • Liaison with colleagues on maintenance schedules for the week/month ahead Involvement in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Supporting the logistics process.
  • Continuous liaising with the Operations Manager regarding mining activities.
  • Ensuring team activities support each other in the mining cycle.
  • Monitor and advise the teams on working methods and scheduling.

This role is at a C5 level reporting to Senior Shift Supervisor.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12 with Mathematics & Science.
  • Competent A Certificate.
  • Valid Blasting Certificate.
  • Shift Supervisor Certificate advantageous.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Driver’s License.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • 3 years’ experience in Mining, of which 2 years must be in Drilling.
  • Basic Computer Literacy.
