Job summary

Valterra Platinum in Limpopo seeks a maintenance technician specialized in cranes and rigging. You will maintain, install, and commission machinery, conduct safety meetings, and perform risk assessments to ensure operations meet MHSA standards.

The role requires a Grade 12, N2 trade, and a recognized Rigger certification, with at least 3 years of crane experience. You will work on-site, including standby shifts, supporting team training and equipment inspections.

Qualifications

• Grade 12/Matric requirement.
• Technical N2 trade qualification.
• Rigging trade certification (Rigger).

Responsibilities

• Maintain, install and commission machinery and equipment to standard.
• Attend and conduct safety meetings.

• Replace components when needed.
• Ensure high quality of work.
• Prepare job cards and descriptions of work and spares used.
• Support and train subordinates and apprentices.

Job Description

This role has a 2.9.2 appointment in terms of the MHSA, Act of 1996:

Your responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

• Maintain, install and commission the of the machinery and equipment to an agreed standard in the area of responsibility.
• Attend and conduct Safety meeting
• Conducts and participate in Risk assessments
• Comply to environmental requirements
• Exercise judgment with regards to replacement of components
• Maintains a high quality of work
• Completing job cards and description of work and spares used (PM’s)
• Support, coach and participate in the training and development of subordinates and apprentices
• Responsible for maintenance and inspections on chairlifts
• Responsible for maintenance and inspection of lifting equipment on the stores
• Performing work to the required standards and specifications
• Applying appropriate tools to complete tasks

Qualifications

• Grade 12/ Matric
• Technical Trade Specific N2
• Certified Competent as Rigger (Rigging Trade certificate)

Experience

• 3 years experiance
• Fixed cranes, Mobile cranes and Rope splicing

Knowledge and skills

• Must be able to do standby and overtime
• Must be familiar with risk assessments procedures
