Job summary

The Talent Room is seeking a Store Manager to drive sales profitability and lead a retail team in George, Western Cape. You will monitor daily performance and manage operations with a focus on customer satisfaction and profitability.

Responsibilities include building trade customer relationships, managing stock accuracy, ensuring store standards, and controlling expenses. You will coach staff, set targets, schedule shifts, and address underperformance in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Grade 12/Matric is required.
• Minimum 3 years in retail management or senior supervisory role.
• Proven sales-driven background with strong leadership.
• Experience with stock control and retail operations.
• Proficient in English and Afrikaans; retail software experience is a plus.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Sales & Profitability: Achieve and exceed store sales and gross profit targets, monitor daily, weekly and monthly performance, manage gross profit margins, discounting and operational expenditure, and identify opportunities to grow sales, profitability and market share.
• Business Development: Develop new business and grow relationships with key trade customers, while monitoring competitor activity and local market opportunities.
• Team Management: Lead, motivate and develop the store team, set individual and team sales targets, manage scheduling, attendance and productivity, provide training and address underperformance and disciplinary matters when required.
• Customer Service: Ensure excellent customer service, build strong relationships with retail and trade customers, resolve complaints professionally, and develop and retain key customers including painters, contractors and builders.
• Stock & Store Operations: Take responsibility for stock accuracy, availability and stock losses, manage replenishment and ordering, monitor slow-moving and obsolete stock, and ensure correct receiving, storage and dispatch procedures.
• Store Standards: Maintain high standards of housekeeping, merchandising, pricing and store presentation, while ensuring POS, cash-up, returns and discount procedures are correctly followed.
• Administration & Reporting: Monitor and report on key store performance indicators, maintain accurate operational records, report monthly to the Directors, manage store expenses within budget, and implement practical solutions to operational problems.
• Compliance: Ensure company policies and procedures are followed and maintain health, safety and security standards.

Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in retail management or a senior supervisory role.
• Proven experience in a sales-driven environment.
• Strong leadership and people-management skills.
• Strong commercial and sales ability.
• Experience with stock control and retail operations.
• Computer literate, including POS systems; experience with Unipos and MS Office will be advantageous.
• Proficient in English and Afrikaans.
• Willing to work retail hours, including Saturdays and public holidays when required.
• Experience in paint, hardware, building materials, DIY or related retail will be advantageous.
