Job summary

Harmattan Renewables in Johannesburg seeks a senior professional to own the production side of the commercial function: drafting proposals, building costing behind them, and managing bids through to submission.

This role is strategic, not admin. You will decide scope, methodologies and pricing to win work and ensure profitability, with a path into client-facing origination within 18–24 months.

Qualifications

• Engineering or technical degree in electrical, mechanical, energy, civil or equivalent.
• 3–5 years in renewable energy in a technical, commercial or bid role.
• Real market knowledge across Sub-Saharan Africa: developers, IPPs, DFIs, lenders and EPCs.
• Ability to write credibly about due diligence, yield assessment or owner's engineering scope.
• Comfort with building costing models and understanding margins.
• Strong writing and clear communication; self-directed work style.

Responsibilities

• Proposal drafting from qualification through to submission, including scope, methodology, team composition, CVs, references and schedules.
• Costing and pricing: build resource plans, apply rates, calculate margins and flag uncompetitive prices.
• Bid management: meet deadlines, manage documents and obtain approvals.
• Pipeline discipline: maintain realistic opportunities and close dates.
• Market intelligence: monitor tender portals, notices and procurement activity.
• Develop library of reusable content, case studies and references.
• Win/loss analysis: feed learnings back into future proposals.
