Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Renewable Energy Project Manager to lead solar PV projects from concept to handover in the Gauteng region. You will drive scope, schedule, budget and risk management while coordinating with clients, EPC contractors and regulators.

You bring a Bachelor's degree in engineering, 6+ years of PM experience (4+ in renewables), and familiarity with PMI/PRINCE2 methods. A PMP certification is a plus and you thrive in a fast-moving green energy environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of project management experience, with 4+ years in renewable energy.
• Experience managing solar PV projects from initiation to closure.
• Knowledge of PMI or PRINCE2 project management methodologies.
• Strong budgeting, scheduling and risk management capabilities.
• Excellent negotiation and leadership skills.
• Familiarity with SA regulatory frameworks and permitting is advantageous.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the green energy transition, is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Renewable Energy Project Manager specializing in Solar PV technologies. This demanding role is based in the vibrant community of Tembisa, Gauteng . You will be responsible for the end-to-end management of solar photovoltaic projects, from initial concept and feasibility studies through to construction, commissioning, and handover. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership capabilities, a deep technical understanding of solar energy systems, and a proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects on time and within budget. This is a critical role where you will shape the future of sustainable energy infrastructure in the region and drive significant positive environmental impact. You will be a key figure in steering our client's ambitious expansion plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all phases of solar PV projects, including planning, design, procurement, construction, and operations.
• Develop detailed project plans, budgets, and schedules, and meticulously track progress against these benchmarks.
• Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring proactive problem-solving and contingency planning.
• Coordinate and manage relationships with all project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and quality standards throughout project lifecycles.
• Oversee the selection and management of EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractors.
• Conduct regular site inspections and progress meetings to ensure project milestones are met.
• Prepare comprehensive project reports for senior management and clients, detailing progress, challenges, and financial status.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil), Project Management, or a related technical discipline.
• A minimum of 6 years of project management experience, with at least 4 years specifically focused on renewable energy projects, particularly solar PV.
• Demonstrated experience in managing projects from initiation to closure, with a strong understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., PMI, PRINCE2).
• Proven ability to manage complex budgets and schedules, and to deliver projects within financial constraints.
• Excellent understanding of solar PV technology, including system design, component selection, and grid integration principles.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
• Experience with local South African regulatory frameworks and permitting processes is advantageous.
• PMP certification or equivalent is a plus.
