Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Renewable Energy Analyst to join our team in South Africa. You will assess technical and economic viability for renewable energy integration into the grid, perform market research, data analysis, and modeling to support decision-making and policy development.

Role requires strong quantitative skills, deep knowledge of energy markets and power systems, and a passion for sustainable energy solutions.

Qualifications

Master's degree or PhD in Engineering (Electrical, Systems), Economics, or related quantitative field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy systems analysis, market research, or consulting with a focus on renewable energy.
Strong analytical and modeling skills using tools such as PSS/E, PowerWorld, MATLAB, or similar.
In-depth knowledge of power system operation, grid economics, and energy market structures in South Africa.
Familiarity with PV, wind, battery storage, and their integration challenges.
Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to present complex information clearly.
Proficiency in data analysis and statistical software (R, Python, Stata).
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong understanding of South African energy policy and regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

Analyze grid capacity, stability, and operational impacts of integrating renewable energy sources.
Develop and utilize energy system models to forecast supply, demand, and pricing scenarios.
Conduct techno-economic assessments of renewable energy projects and grid upgrades.
Research and interpret energy policies, regulations, and market trends.
Prepare analytical reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior management and external stakeholders.
Collaborate with engineers, economists, and policy advisors to develop grid integration strategies.
Identify opportunities for grid modernization, energy storage, and demand-side management.
Monitor KPIs for renewables projects and grid performance.
Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in renewable energy fields.
Support business development with analytical insights for new projects.
