Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Remote Commercial Underwriter specialized in specialty lines to join a virtual team serving clients across South Africa, with focus on Cape Town market needs. The role involves evaluating and pricing complex risks while upholding underwriting guidelines and profitability targets.

You will analyze financials and operations, price policies, and collaborate with brokers and internal teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Finance, Commerce, Risk Management or related field.
• 7+ years progressive commercial underwriting experience with specialty lines.
• Expertise in professional indemnity, cyber, D&O or other specialty classes.
• Strong analytical and financial assessment skills.
• Excellent negotiation and remote communication abilities.
• Proficiency with underwriting systems and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and price specialty lines commercial policies (e.g., PI, cyber, D&O).
• Analyze financial statements, operations and risk exposures to determine insurability and terms.
• Maintain relationships with brokers and agents, offering expert guidance.
• Adhere to authorities, guidelines and profitability targets.
• Collaborate with claims, legal and actuarial teams on complex cases.
