Placements24 is seeking a Remote Electrical Design Engineer specialized in solar projects to join our expanding renewable energy team. You will design electrical schematics, perform critical calculations, and specify components for utility-scale and distributed solar systems, working remotely for clients across regions including near Paarl.

The role emphasizes independent work, strong communication, and ability to manage multiple projects from concept through construction documentation,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 3-5 years of electrical design experience with a focus on solar PV projects.
• Proficiency in solar design software (PVSyst, AutoCAD Electrical, Helioscope).
• Strong understanding of grid-tied and off-grid solar systems, battery storage and power electronics.
• Excellent communication skills for remote collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and wiring layouts for solar PV systems.
• Perform electrical calculations including load analysis, voltage drop, and fault current calculations.
• Specify components such as inverters, transformers, switchgear, and cabling for solar installations.
• Ensure designs comply with electrical codes and client specifications.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers, project managers and external stakeholders in a remote environment.
• Conduct design reviews and provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
