Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for a global energy trading technology leader. This fully remote role within South Africa requires 8+ years in backend systems and expertise in Java, C++, or Python, plus experience with distributed, low-latency software.

You will design, build, test, and maintain scalable trading platforms, mentor peers, and collaborate with product managers and traders to deliver robust financial software while ensuring reliability and security.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 8 years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on backend systems.
• Proven experience in building high-frequency trading platforms, financial systems, or complex distributed systems.
• Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL) and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, essential for a remote team environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve complex software systems for energy trading.
• Develop robust, scalable, and high-performance applications, focusing on low-latency requirements.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code using modern programming languages (e.g., Java, C++, Python).
• Collaborate with product managers, traders, and other engineers to define requirements and deliver innovative solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical design sessions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production environments.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of software development processes and practices.
• Mentor junior engineers and share technical expertise within the team.
