Placements24 is seeking a Senior Software Development Manager for a fully remote role in South Africa. You will lead a team of software engineers, shape technical direction, and ensure delivery of scalable, high-quality software while aligning with business goals.

In this remote-first position, you will mentor engineers, manage the SDLC, promote Agile practices, and collaborate with product, design, and other teams to drive roadmaps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in software development, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
• Proven experience in managing software development teams and projects, preferably in a remote environment.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and modern development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, DevOps).
• Expertise in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C#, JavaScript) and associated frameworks.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities, crucial for remote team management.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and CI/CD pipelines is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers, fostering a high-performance culture.
• Oversee the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC), from requirements gathering and design to implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Drive the adoption of best practices in software development, including Agile methodologies, code reviews, and automated testing.
• Collaborate closely with product management, design, and other engineering teams to define product roadmaps and technical strategies.
• Ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance team efficiency and product quality.
• Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support the professional development of team members.
• Manage technical debt and ensure the long-term health and stability of the codebase.
• Facilitate effective communication and collaboration within the remote engineering team and with other departments.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical design discussions.
