Placements24 is seeking a Lead Energy Policy Analyst to drive research, analysis, and strategic recommendations in South Africa's energy sector. The role focuses on shaping policy frameworks, regulatory landscapes, and market trends for governments, regulators, and industry players, with a remote-first setup.

The successful candidate will guide expert policy work, mentor junior analysts, and deliver evidence-based insights that support the energy transition and sustainable development goals.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in energy policy analysis, research, or consulting.
• Deep understanding of South Africa's energy sector, policy, regulation, and market structures.
• Expertise in renewable energy policies, energy transition pathways, and climate change mitigation strategies.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and research skills, with ability to synthesize complex information.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to articulate policy issues clearly and persuasively.
• Proven experience in managing research projects and leading teams.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools and economic modeling software is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Research, analyze, and interpret energy policies, regulations, and market developments at national and international levels.
• Develop comprehensive reports, policy briefs, and strategic recommendations on energy sector reforms and initiatives.
• Assess the economic, social, and environmental impacts of proposed energy policies.
• Engage with government bodies, industry associations, and other stakeholders to provide expert advice and support policy formulation.
• Model the impact of different policy scenarios on energy systems, markets, and consumers.
• Stay abreast of global best practices in energy policy and regulation, particularly concerning renewable energy and energy transition.
• Lead and mentor junior analysts, overseeing research projects and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
• Present findings and recommendations to diverse audiences, including high-level decision-makers.
