Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Software Architect based in South Africa to lead platform architecture for a large, distributed engineering organization. You will shape cross-cutting technical direction and own foundational initiatives with Staff and Lead Engineers to ensure reliability and scalability.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with platform-level architecture ownership.
• Experience guiding senior engineers through influence and standards adoption.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems and high-throughput backends.
• Strong experience designing public APIs and SDKs at scale.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for engineers and executives.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain a comprehensive view of the platform architecture and data flows.
• Identify systemic scalability, reliability, and cost risks and drive improvements.
• Set direction for API design, service patterns, and API evolution.
• Lead foundational initiatives like multi-region readiness and feature flag infra.
• Mentor staff-level engineers in design, writing, and architectural thinking.
• Establish and enforce durable engineering standards for observability and security.
