Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Remote Senior Field Applications Engineer to support clients primarily in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, and across South Africa. The role combines pre-sales and post-sales technical liaison with our engineering teams to optimize automation solutions.

You will analyze client requirements, deliver product demonstrations, assist with system design and integration, and train client staff while maintaining strong remote collaboration with internal teams.

Qualifications

• Requires Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 8 years in Field Applications Engineering, Technical Support or similar client-facing engineering role in industrial automation.
• Deep knowledge of industrial automation components: PLCs, drives, sensors, HMIs, robotics.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical consultation and support for automation solutions and product integration.
• Analyze client requirements and tailor technical solutions using the product portfolio.
• Lead technical presentations, demos, and feasibility studies for clients.

About the Role

Our client, a prestigious multinational corporation specializing in advanced industrial automation components and solutions, is seeking a highly experienced Remote Senior Field Applications Engineer. This is a critical, fully remote role serving clients primarily in the Stellenbosch, Western Cape region, but allowing you to operate from anywhere in South Africa. You will act as a key technical liaison between our clients and our engineering teams, providing expert pre-sales and post-sales support. Your responsibilities will include understanding client application requirements, recommending optimal product solutions, assisting with system integration, and troubleshooting complex technical challenges. The ideal candidate possesses a deep technical understanding of automation technologies, excellent customer-facing skills, and a proven ability to solve intricate engineering problems. This role requires significant autonomy, excellent remote collaboration capabilities, and a passion for driving technological adoption and ensuring customer success. Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical consultation and support to clients regarding automation solutions and product integration.

• Gather and relay customer feedback to product development teams to inform future innovations.


• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies.


• Document technical discussions, solutions, and customer feedback accurately.

Requirements

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.


• A minimum of 8 years of experience in a Field Applications Engineering, Technical Support, or similar client-facing engineering role within the industrial automation sector.


• Extensive knowledge of industrial automation components, including PLCs, drives, sensors, HMIs, and robotics.


• Proven ability to understand and analyze complex application requirements.


• Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.


• Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to build rapport with clients.


• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively in a remote setting.


• Willingness to travel occasionally for critical client needs (if required).


• Fluency in English; proficiency in other relevant languages is a plus.


• Strong understanding of Industry 4.0 concepts and smart manufacturing.
