Placements24 is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to join a globally dispersed, fully remote team. This role concentrates on environmental compliance across mining operations, developing EMPs, and guiding site teams on regulatory requirements.

You will monitor indicators such as water quality and biodiversity, conduct ESIA studies, support permitting and licensing, engage regulators and communities, and contribute to training and rehabilitation initiatives.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Management, or a related field.
• 7+ years of professional experience in environmental management, with significant exposure to mining.
• In-depth knowledge of environmental impact assessment processes and environmental legislation relevant to mining.
• Experience with environmental monitoring techniques and data analysis.
• Strong understanding of ecological principles, biodiversity management, and rehabilitation practices.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently in a remote setting.
• Familiarity with ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement and consultation.

Responsabilités

• Develop, implement, and manage Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for mining projects.
• Conduct Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and compile necessary reports.
• Ensure compliance with national and international environmental legislation and company standards.
• Monitor environmental performance indicators and advise on corrective actions.
• Provide expert guidance on environmental permitting, licensing, and regulatory approvals.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and local communities on environmental matters.
• Develop and deliver environmental training programs for site-based personnel.
• Contribute to biodiversity conservation and rehabilitation strategies.
• Stay abreast of emerging environmental issues, technologies, and best practices in mining.
• Support environmental auditing processes and remediation of non-compliance issues.
