Placements24 is seeking a Senior Chemical Research Scientist for a fully remote R&D team in South Africa. The role focuses on leading novel chemical synthesis, catalysis, and materials development, with emphasis on translating discoveries into commercial applications.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD and 8+ years post-doctoral experience, has a track record of publications/patents, and can work effectively in a remote, cross-functional setting.

Qualifications

• PhD in Organic/Inorganic Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum 8 years of post-doctoral R&D experience.
• Proven publications and/or patents in relevant fields.
• Experience in synthetic organic chemistry, catalysis, or materials science.
• Proficiency with modern analytical techniques (NMR, MS, chromatography, spectroscopy).
• Strong theory, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for remote collaboration.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
• Based in South Africa and legally authorized to work remotely.

Responsibilities

• Lead independent research on novel chemical synthesis, catalysis, or materials.
• Design, conduct, and analyze complex experiments with advanced techniques.
