Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Remote Route Optimizer to design, implement and refine delivery routes for a large fleet across South Africa. You will use routing software and data analysis to improve efficiency, reduce transit times, and cut costs while ensuring compliant driver hours and customer satisfaction.

This fully remote role requires strong analytical skills, experience with route planning tools (PTV, Route4Me, Onfleet), proficiency in Excel, and the ability to work independently from a home

Qualifications

• Proven experience in route planning or a similar analytical role within the transportation industry.
• Proficiency with advanced route optimization software and mapping tools.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and derive actionable insights.
• Excellent understanding of transportation logistics, including factors affecting delivery times and costs.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting, demonstrating strong self-discipline and time management skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel or similar data analysis tools.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with remote teams.
• A dedicated home office setup with a reliable internet connection.
• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, or a related field is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and continuously optimize delivery routes for a large fleet of vehicles across various geographical regions.
• Utilize sophisticated route planning software (e.g., PTV, Route4Me, Onfleet) to create efficient and cost-effective delivery sequences.
• Analyze historical delivery data, traffic patterns, and other relevant factors to identify opportunities for route improvement.
• Collaborate with dispatchers and operations managers to implement route changes and ensure smooth execution.
• Monitor real-time delivery progress and make necessary adjustments to routes due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., traffic, weather, vehicle breakdowns).
• Generate reports on route efficiency, mileage, fuel consumption, delivery times, and other key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Stay abreast of new technologies and best practices in route optimization and logistics software.
• Provide recommendations for fleet utilization and capacity planning based on route analysis.
• Ensure routes comply with driver hours-of-service regulations and delivery time windows.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date route information within the company's logistics management system.
