Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Remote Renewable Energy Systems Technician to monitor and optimize solar PV and battery storage installations across South Africa. This fully remote role requires strong electrical knowledge, hands-on diagnostics, and the ability to troubleshoot from a distance.

You will work with SCADA platforms and client teams to diagnose faults, analyze performance data, and guide on-site technicians.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Technology, or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in monitoring and maintenance of PV and/or battery storage.
• Strong knowledge of electrical principles, DC/AC circuits, and power electronics.
• Experience with SCADA systems and diagnostic software.
• Ability to interpret datasheets and performance curves.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills; able to work remotely with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Remotely monitor the performance of solar PV arrays, inverters, and battery storage systems using specialized software.

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in the monitoring and maintenance of solar PV and/or battery storage systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical principles, DC and AC circuits, and power electronics.
• Proficiency with SCADA systems, monitoring platforms (e.g., Sungrow, SMA Sunny Portal, Tesla Powerwall dashboards), and diagnostic software.
• Experience interpreting technical manuals, datasheets, and performance curves.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote setting.
• Strong communication and reporting skills, both written and verbal.
• Familiarity with various inverter and battery technologies.
• Knowledge of safety procedures relevant to electrical and renewable energy systems.
