Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly analytical Remote Electrical Systems Analyst to focus on improving power grid stability and reliability across South Africa. You will model complex electrical networks, conduct stability studies, and develop strategies to prevent disruptions using advanced simulation tools.

The role requires a Ph.D./M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems), 8+ years in power system analysis, and strong data analytics.

Qualifications

• M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems Engineering.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in power system analysis, with a focus on grid stability and dynamics.
• Expertise in power system simulation software (PSS/E, PSCAD/EMTDC, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, GE PSLF).
• Strong understanding of frequency control, voltage stability, and rotor-angle stability.
• Proficient in data analysis tools and techniques.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work autonomously in a remote setting.
• Professional registration with ECSA is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed power system stability studies (transient, dynamic, long-term).
• Develop and maintain power system models using industry-standard software.
• Analyze grid response to disturbances (generation loss, faults, load changes).
• Identify vulnerabilities and propose remedial actions to improve stability and reliability.
• Develop protection settings and control strategies to enhance performance.
• Collaborate with grid operators and planning engineers to implement recommendations.
• Prepare technical reports documenting study results and recommendations.
• Stay updated on grid technologies and renewable integration challenges.
• Contribute to grid codes and operational standards.
• Provide expert technical support on power system dynamics.
