Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Legal Advisor to join a major mining and resources group. Based remotely in South Africa, you will provide expert counsel on mineral rights, environmental law, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement across the mining lifecycle.

Admitted Attorney (High Court of South Africa) with at least 7 years post-qualification experience in mining and resources law is required.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with a minimum of 7 years post-qualification experience in mining and resources law.
• Experience advising on mineral law, environmental law, and related regulatory frameworks.
• Strong understanding of the South African mining sector and its operational context.
• Excellent contract drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a remote workload effectively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to provide practical and strategic legal advice in a complex industry.

Responsibilities

• Advise on mineral and prospecting rights, mining licenses, and exploration permits.
• Ensure compliance with mining legislation, environmental regulations, and health and safety standards.
• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements related to mining operations, joint ventures, and resource development.
• Conduct legal due diligence for acquisitions, disposals, and new projects within the mining sector.
• Provide counsel on community relations, social responsibility, and stakeholder engagement from a legal perspective.
• Manage legal aspects of environmental impact assessments and permitting processes.
• Assist with dispute resolution and litigation concerning mining operations.
• Stay abreast of legislative changes affecting the mining industry in South Africa.
