Placements24 is seeking a Mine Planning Engineer for a fully remote role across South Africa, focusing on long-term and short-term mine plans for open-pit and underground operations. You will model plans using Deswik, Surpac, and MinePlan, conduct economic evaluations, and collaborate with dispersed teams to ensure safety and efficiency.

7+ years in mine planning; a Bachelors in Mining Engineering; strong analytical and communication skills to thrive in a remote setup and to influence projects

Qualifications

• Bachelors in Mining Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 7+ years of mine planning/design experience for open-pit or underground mining.
• Proficiency in Deswik, Surpac and MinePlan.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication for remote collaboration.
• Ability to work autonomously in a remote setting.
• Experience with mine valuation and economic analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement short-term and long-term mine plans for open-pit or underground operations.
• Create detailed 3D models of layouts, sequences and schedules using Deswik/Surpac/MinePlan.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new projects.
• Optimize layouts, routes and production sequences for safety and efficiency.
• Collaborate with operations, geology and engineering teams to align planning and execution.
• Monitor performance, identify deviations and implement corrective actions.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for management and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
