Placements24 is seeking a Product Development Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of groundbreaking consumer electronics. The role is remote with a Centurion focus and requires collaboration with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and firmware developers.

You will create 3D CAD models using Fusion 360 or Onshape, run thermal and structural simulations, and drive prototypes from concept through to mass production, ensuring manufacturability and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 6+ years of progressive experience in mechanical product design.
• Proficient in 3D CAD and simulation tools.
• Experience with injection molding, CNC, stamping, and other processes.
• Strong thermal, acoustics, and plastic part design.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Remote or hybrid team experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of new consumer electronic products from concept to production.
• Create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD software (Fusion 360, Onshape).
• Perform engineering analysis, including thermal, structural, and vibration simulations, to validate designs.
• Develop and manage prototypes, conduct testing, and iterate designs based on results.
• Collaborate with industrial designers to ensure aesthetics and ergonomics.
• Work with electrical engineers to integrate PCBs and components within the mechanical design.
• Prepare design specifications, test reports, and Bills of Materials.
• Interface with manufacturing partners to ensure designs are optimized for DFM and DFS.

Your responsibilities will span the entire product development lifecycle, from initial ideation and feasibility studies through to detailed design, testing, and ensuring manufacturability for mass production. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of new consumer electronic products from concept to production.
• Create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD software (e.g., Fusion 360, Onshape).

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in mechanical product design, preferably in the consumer electronics sector.
• Demonstrated proficiency in 3D CAD software and simulation tools.
• Experience with a wide range of materials and manufacturing processes relevant to consumer electronics (e.g., injection molding, CNC machining, stamping).
• Strong understanding of thermal management, acoustics, and plastic part design.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet demanding deadlines.
• Experience working in a remote or hybrid team environment is highly advantageous.
