Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for its Klerksdorp, North West operations. You will design mechanical components and systems for automation and robotics, creating detailed CAD models and drawings while collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams.

You will perform analyses, specify materials and components, and lead prototype testing. Remote work is available, with a focus on innovative automation projects and continual learning within a dynamic team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design with a focus on automation, robotics, or mechatronics.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor) or equivalent.
• Understanding of control systems, sensors, and actuators used in automation.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and material properties.
• Ability to perform basic engineering calculations and simulations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, essential for remote collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for automation and robotic applications.
• Create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings, ensuring adherence to specifications.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, and controls engineers to integrate mechanical systems.
• Perform kinematic, dynamic, stress, and thermal analyses to validate designs.
• Specify materials, bearings, actuators, and other components for automation equipment.
• Oversee assembly and testing of prototypes and resolve design issues.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of existing automation systems.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including BOMs and assembly instructions.
