Job summary

Our client, a global leader in telecommunications, seeks a Lead Network Infrastructure Engineer for a fully remote team. Based in Johannesburg, you will architect, implement, and maintain enterprise networks to underpin critical operations, with autonomy and trust in a remote‑first culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in network engineering and infrastructure management.
• Proven experience leading network engineering teams and projects.
• In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VPNs, and other routing/switching protocols.
• Hands-on experience with network security technologies, including firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Cisco ASA), IDS/IPS, and VPNs.
• Expertise in network monitoring and management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, Zabbix).
• Strong understanding of cloud networking concepts (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Relevant certifications such as CCIE, CCNP Enterprise, or equivalent are highly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex, large-scale network deployments remotely.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, deployment, and management of enterprise-level network infrastructure, including routing, switching, firewalls, and load balancers.
• Develop and execute network strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technological advancements.
• Oversee the implementation of network security policies and best practices to protect sensitive data and systems.
• Diagnose and resolve complex network issues, minimizing downtime and impact on operations.
• Mentor and guide a team of network engineers, fostering technical growth and high performance.
• Evaluate and recommend new network technologies and solutions to enhance capabilities and efficiency.
• Manage relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure optimal service delivery.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Lead capacity planning and performance tuning initiatives for all network components.
