Placements24 seeks a seasoned IoT Solutions Architect to design and oversee remote, end-to-end IoT deployments for industrial clients across South Africa. You will define architectures spanning devices, connectivity, data platforms, cloud infrastructure, analytics and security.

You will translate complex business needs into scalable, secure technical designs and lead cross-functional teams in a fully remote setting, ensuring on-time delivery and stakeholder alignment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in CS, Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10 years in technology architecture, with at least 5 years in IoT.
• Proven experience delivering large-scale IoT solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end IoT solutions including hardware integration and cloud platforms.
• Evaluate platforms, technologies and vendors per client requirements.
• Develop detailed technical architectures and proof-of-concept designs.
• Translate client business challenges into actionable IoT strategies.
• Guide implementation with development teams to align to architecture.
• Define data models, ingestion strategies and analytics frameworks.
• Implement robust security across the IoT solution stack.
• Provide technical leadership across the project lifecycle.

This is a critical, fully remote role, enabling you to shape the future of connected industries from anywhere within South Africa. You will be responsible for designing and architecting comprehensive IoT solutions for a diverse range of industrial clients, encompassing device integration, data platforms, cloud infrastructure, analytics, and security. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of IoT ecosystems, cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP), data management, cybersecurity principles, and has proven experience in translating complex business requirements into robust, scalable, and secure technical architectures. You will collaborate closely with clients, product managers, and engineering teams to define roadmaps, guide implementation, and ensure the successful deployment of transformative IoT solutions. This role demands exceptional strategic thinking, strong communication, and the ability to lead complex technical initiatives autonomously in a remote environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end IoT solutions, including hardware integration, connectivity, cloud platforms, data storage, analytics, and security layers.
• Evaluate and select appropriate IoT platforms, technologies, and vendors based on client requirements and project objectives.
• Develop detailed technical architectures, specifications, and proof-of-concept designs for IoT implementations.

• Work with development teams to guide the implementation of IoT solutions, ensuring alignment with architectural designs.

• Stay current with the latest advancements in IoT, cloud computing, AI/ML, and related technologies.

Requirements

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in technology architecture, with at least 5 years specifically focused on IoT solutions.
• Proven expertise in designing and implementing large-scale IoT solutions across various industries.
• In-depth knowledge of major cloud platforms (AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub, Google Cloud IoT).
• Strong understanding of communication protocols (MQTT, CoAP, HTTP) and device management platforms.
• Experience with data analytics, machine learning, and AI concepts as applied to IoT data.
• Expertise in IoT security best practices and implementation.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
• Outstanding communication, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities.
