Placements24 is seeking an Industrial Engineer to optimize plant layouts and material flows at a Richards Bay facility. You will design layouts using CAD and simulation tools, ensuring safe, efficient, and scalable production environments.

The role emphasizes ergonomic assessments, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and implementing high-impact layout improvements to maximize throughput and safety. Remote collaboration skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in industrial engineering with a strong focus on plant layout, material flow, and facility design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant CAD software for layout design.
• Experience with simulation software (e.g., FlexSim, Arena) for process and flow analysis is essential.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, 5S, and workplace organization techniques.
• Understanding of industrial equipment, machinery, and infrastructure.
• Strong spatial reasoning and visualization skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management capabilities.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to present complex designs to various stakeholders.
• Must be legally eligible to work in South Africa .
• This is a fully remote position, requiring self-discipline and strong remote collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze existing plant layouts and material flow paths to identify inefficiencies and safety hazards.
• Design optimal plant layouts, production line configurations, and workstation arrangements using CAD software and simulation tools.
• Develop and implement detailed material flow strategies to minimize travel distances, reduce bottlenecks, and improve throughput.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure layout designs meet functional, safety, and environmental requirements.
• Conduct ergonomic assessments and implement improvements to enhance worker safety and comfort.
• Create and maintain accurate layout drawings, P&IDs, and process flow diagrams.
• Evaluate and recommend equipment placement and facility modifications to support production goals.
• Perform feasibility studies for new plant layouts or significant modifications.
• Oversee the implementation of new layouts and ensure successful transition of operations.
